Relationships

Create a relationship link between two otherwise unrelated members.

Examples of when you would use this.
  1. Brother-Sister
  2. Father-Son/Daughter
  3. Co-worker
  4. Friend
Use Relationship to document all these and other relationships.
This feature is for relating contacts (members) who are not in the same family. It should not be used to related husband/wife who are on the same record, or children who are at home.

To view relationships of any member, go to the MEMBER record for the individual family member (not the Family record). Once way to navigate to the member record is to click Edit and then "Go to personal page".

You can also see that you are in the "member" record by looking at the url (web address).
https://demo.chabadms.com/#/member/4347
In this example (Chezky Altein), we are viewing Member (Member ID 4347).

Scroll down to the Relationship tab to see a list of related members.
Available Actions:
  • Edit: Edit the relationship (Father/Daughter).
  • Delete: Removes the relationship link (it does not delete the related member).
  • Add: Creates a new relationship link.
  • Jump to: Click the name of the related member and you are taken to that member.
Some pointers:
  1. Relationships are not between two "Family" records; they are only between the individual family member of a family, and another member of another family. This is why you will not see the Relationship list when viewing a Family record. For example, when viewing the family Altein, Chezky & Cherry (https://demo.chabadms.com/#/family/4175), you won't see the relationship tab. (Notice the web address has "family/4175" and not member.)

  2. The purpose of relationship is solely for providing a structured way of notating and provides navigation. It is not available on reports (other than Yahrtzeits, see next point).

  3. Relationships are also used in Yahrtzeits. Any Relationship in which one member is deceased and a relationship is created for the purpose of Yahrtzeit notification will not show up under relationships but rather under Yahrtzeits.

  4. CMS Classic Data Migration most likely included migrating relationships. Even if your data was migrated prior to when this feature was available you will still see these relationships coming up.
